Invitation To Become A Mosaic Addict

Posted by Melanie | E-Mail The Author

Hi Everyone!

I'm Melanie, a mosaic artist/addict and I am inviting everyone to join me!

Mosaics are one of the oldest forms of art and can be traced all the way back to the orient some 2000 years B.C. You will find mosaics through out time and in almost every culture, on walls of cathedrals, palace floors, temples, churches. Today's modern mosaics are popping up everywhere and on just about any surface that you can imagine. There are so many different things that you can use for mosaic tiles (known as tesserae), the possibilities are almost endless.
Bits of glass, china, buttons, stones, glass gems, marbles, shells, ceramic tile, and porcelain just to name a few.

Mosaics can range from very simple projects to very ornate and complicated ones. ANYONE can mosaic!!!! All it takes are a few simple tools and some imagination. Tools of the craft: tiles in your choice of material, a surface to glue your tiles to, glass and or ceramic tile nippers, some glue, some grout and that's about it!

For those of you that would rather skip the designing and cutting, I have a solution for you. Drop by my store AnnsMixNMatchMosaics where you will find ideas, designs, pre-cut tiles, and supplies to get you started in the right direction. Here are a few ideas of designs and cut tiles that you might find in my store.

All of the pieces in this set were cut from vintage china dinner plates. China plates are the medium that I work in mostly.

This set is all ready cut for you and would make an awesome trivet!
All you have to do is grab a round piece of wood about 7" in diameter and 1/4" thick, paint it on the edge and bottom in a matching color, glue the tiles following the pattern to the board, grout it using the directions on the grout that you choose, seal the grout lines with a sealer and you have a finished trivet that you can use and proudly display at your next dinner party.

Blue isn't your color, well how about pink?

Pink and blue don't cut it for you? How about something a bit fancier?

Stop in today and become a mosaic addict too!
Many many thanks for the invitation to blog with you all.
